H2S Removal from Biogas using AxTrap 4000 materials.

Sep 21, 2023

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and light mercaptans are common contaminants that must be removed from various gases such as air, CO2, natural gas, biogas and landfill-derived methane. Such Sulfur species are extremely corrosive and must be removed to meet fuel gas specifications, pipeline specifications and air quality regulations.

A commonly known and used technique for H2S removal is (impregnated) activated carbon. Not only does this remove the unwanted H2S from your feed gas, it also removes VOC’s which makes it the preffered choice for companies who use membranes to remove excessive CO2 to upgrade their methane purity.

So why AxTrap 4000? With a feed gas that has H2S concentrations over 200 ppmv, our AxTrap 4000 series becomes incrementally more attractive than activated carbon. At levels above 3.000 ppmv, Axtrap is really a much better fit than activated carbon.

Some advantages that the AxTrap material has in comparison to activated carbon are:

  • The cost of purchase of AxTrap material are lower than activated carbon.
  • When spent, the AxTrap material is non hazardous material, this makes it significantly cheaper to dispose and reduces personnel risk
  • Where activated carbon needs O2 in the feed gas, our AxTrap 4000 range also works without any O2.

Please don’t confuse our product with Iron Sponge or other Iron Oxide medias available in the market because unlike these materials, AxTrap 4000 has no risk of spent media heating or fires!

We can offer customized support ranging from simply supplying material to offering a fully engineered technical solution including a basic system design, media supply, detailed engineering, fabrication packages, equipment supply, and spent media handling.
